Neal Watson's Bimini Scuba Center Review

Neal Watson's Bimini Scuba Center Review http://www.biminiscubacenter.com/

Just got back from three days of diving with Neal Watson's Bimini Scuba Center and I had a GREAT TIME!  Two days of Hammerhead Safaris followed by a day on the Dolphin Safari.  The water was calm and clear and the beautiful Bimini Blue color that only those that have been to this island know.  The Sharks and Dolphins came out to play and kept all the divers HAPPY.

The Bad:  The dive boat in use was a used up reject from the Key Largo's famous Captain Slate.  This boat was literally falling apart structurally with the grab rails around the cockpit rusted through and nearly falling off as well as the swim platform creeking and groaning under the weight of divers (go ahead and chuckle...I'm not that FAT).  The old design of this boat had only one entry/exit point to the water and was only one person wide so stampedes of divers had to wait quite a while to get in when it was HAMMERTIME

The Really Bad:  The boat had crew of two (Captain-Jamie and Mate/DiveMaster-Sean) both of these guys were also Shark Feeders and they did a great job attracting and feeding the sharks for our dives.  We also had an onboard scientist (Vital) whose was studying the sharks we were looking to be entertained by.  Anyway, the scientist was a great young guy fielding questions from us tourists but he was not there to help with the boat or help divers.  So, what was Really Bad?

  • The Captain and Crew left the dive boat unmanned when the shark dives were going on leaving us at risk of lost boat.  This is completely unsafe and a totally unacceptable practice.
  • No formal roll call was conducted by the crew before departure or after the dives were completed, leaving a risk of abandoned divers.  Again this is a totally unacceptable practice.
The really crazy thing is to compare my experience with the Neal Watson's Bimini Scuba Center to the reviews on Trip Advisor where they are rated at 4.5 or on Facebook where they have an amazing 4.9 rating.  I am afraid my fellow divers who gave them these highly inflated reviews were only seeing the sharks and dolphins and forgot about the big picture where diver safety is always #1

Enjoy Your Dives,
